54 Division Troops Do Their Share for Commemoration of ‘Poson’

The 54 Division Headquarters in Mannar contributed its share to the commemoration of the Poson Day-2020 (5 June) by conducting a series of religious and humanitarian events under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 54 Division, Major General Indrajith Bandara.

As the first event, two new Buddha statues were placed for veneration in two newly-constructed shrines inside the camp premises amid Pirith chanting of the chief incumbent of Ven Ambagasawewa Sangharakkhitha Thero of the Mathota Rajamaha Viharaya. At the invitation of the GOC, 54 Division, a special Dhamma sermon was also delivered by the monk, highlighting the importance of the day and the placement of Buddha statues.

Afterwards, as part of the day’s programme, 54 Division Headquarters troops provided a special lunch to 25 children in ‘Annei Illam’ orphanage in Uppukulam, Mannar.

Similarly, 7 Vijayaba Infantry Regiment troops also offered meals to 35 adults in the ‘Shantham’ Elders’ Home in Mannar to coincide with the day’s significance.

As dusk fell, a special ‘Bodhi Pooja’ was conducted in the evening at the shrine premises. Venerable Panduwasnuwara Wimalarathana Thero, Chief incumbent of Mannar Warnabimbarama Viharaya at Manuwehera temple administered the meritorious act.
