54 Division Troops Commemorate Vesak Inaugurating Temple Wings

Army troops serving under the 54 Division of the Security Force Headquarters – Wanni in Mannar, under guidance of the General Officer Commanding, 54 Division, Major General Indrajith Bandara joined several historical meritorious activities during 26-27 May 2021 on account of Vesak in the year 2021.

The newly-constructed ‘Sri Vijayathilakaramaya’ consisting of a Shrine Room, Eth Pawura (perimeter wall, ‘Bodhi Prakaraya’, ‘Bell Tower’ (Gantara Kuluna), “’Dhamma’ preaching hall and a Sangawasaya at Kondachchi, Mannar were vested in the Maha Sangha during a fitting ceremony, graced by Major General Indrajith Bandara, GOC, 54 Division. On the same day, the Buddha's relics were enshrined inthe new Dagoba.

Construction of the temple was carried out by troops of 542 Brigade with funds, donated by the Commander 542 Brigade, his family members and well wishers.

On 27 May 2021, a newly-constructed Walakulu Bemma and a Bodhi protection fence (Ran Weta) were declared open at Manu Vehera inside the Headquarters of the 54 Division at Thallady. The enshrinement of Lord Buddha’s sacred relics in the Shrine Room at the Manu Vehera received much veneration.

The constructions were also made possible with financial support received by all ranks in Thallady camp and also from a few well-wishers.

About 1000 Vesak lanterns that were displayed in and around the Camp and the rotating Vesak lantern displayed near Gimanhala facility complex added colour to the sacred ceremony.

Both events were conducted in strict compliance with COVID-19 guidelines with minimum participation of the troops serving under the 54 Division.
