Mannar-based 54 Division troops of the Security Force HQ-Wanni on information received by the Military Intelligence troops took a stock of 1560 kg of smuggled turmeric into custody at Pallimunei, Mannar after searching a suspicious house on Saturday (12).
The stock of turmeric, valued at Rs 9.3 million and a suspect were delivered to the Mannar Police Station for onward investigations.
Meanwhile, one more stock of 890 smuggled turmeric, valued about Rs 5.34 m was apprehended by 15 (V) Gemunu Watch troops at Kunchikulam roadblock on Saturday (12) evening. The suspects were transporting smuggled raw turmeric from Mannar to Kalmunei in a lorry at the time it was arrested.
