The 53 Infantry Division of the 1 Corps HQ, located in Inamaluwa, Dambulla commemorated its 27 Anniversary on Thursday (24) at its Headquarters in the presence of Major General P.G.P.S Rathnayaka RWP RSP ndc, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 53 Infantry Division amidst military formalities and religious observances.
The GOC was warmly welcomed by Brigadier R.W.K Hewage RWP RSP, Deputy GOC of the 53 Infantry Division after he was greeted in a Guard Turnout with military formalities at the entrance. After a while, he was invited to plant a sapling in the camp premises as a symbol of memory.
Afterwards, he inaugurated the newly renovated ‘Araliya Speed Mart’ Welfare Shop and the SLASC Fuel Pump. The GOC addressed the troops and joined an All-Ranks lunch before all of them joined a musical evening later on the same day.
Meanwhile, troops arranged a ‘Dhamma Sermon’ with a ‘Bodhi Pooja’ on Tuesday (22 Aug) and an Inter Brigade cricket tournament on Wednesday (24 August), coincident with the anniversary celebrations. Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks of the 53 Infantry Division took part in those events.
