167 Army personnel serving under the 53 Infantry Division, Mechanized Infantry Regiment and Galewela civilians volunteered to give their blood for the benefit of patients in major hospitals in the area on 04 May.
It was held at Kanadana Devarukkarama Temple, Galewela.
The project also coincided with the 25th commemoration day of the fallen War Hero Captain M.S Jeevantha Rajapaksha of Commando Regiment who laid down his life on 20th April 1998, whilst engaged in operational duties in Olumadu area.
The event was organized as per guidelines given by Major General P.G.P.S Rathnayake RWP RSP ndc, General Officer Commanding of the 53 Infantry Division in close coordination with the National Blood Transfusion Centre at Kurunegala.
While the project was on, the General Officer Commanding of 53 Infantry Division arrived at the location and interacted with the medical staff and donors who were awaiting their turn.
The National Blood Transfusion Centre at Kurunegala extended their gratitude to the Army for the gesture.
