53 Infantry Division troops, together with Hirujaya Plantations Pvt Ltd, launched a fertilization project to develop the large-scale sandalwood plantation situated near the entrance of the 53 Infantry Division on 11 March 2024.
The project was organized under the guidance of Major General P.G.P.S. Ratnayake RWP RSP ndc, the General Officer Commanding of the 53 Infantry Division. During the programme, officials of Hirujaya Plantations Pvt Ltd provided technical knowledge on fertilizing and agro-medicines regarding red sandalwood.
Furthermore, the required fertilizer was applied to plants free of charge by the officials of Hirujaya Plantations, and they also agreed to provide free saplings and technical assistance in the future.
This sandalwood plantation is considered one of the largest red sandalwood plantations in Sri Lanka and South Asia.
