A 'Shramadana' campaign to rid mosquito-breeding spots and control the spread of Dengue and removal of bushes with pollen that cause respiratory problems got underway in Jaffna on Monday (3).
This programme was launched on a directive of the Commander Security Forces-Jaffna, Major General Priyantha Perera. General Officer Commanding, 52 Division, Brigadier Harendra Peiris supervised the project.
Further, this community-based project was launched with the support of the Commander 521 Brigade, Colonel Mahen Salwathura. During this programme, the road patch of 8.5 km along Achchuveli - Palaly road was cleaned by 11 Battalion of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment troops.
Residents in respective areas and employees at Puttur Pradeshiya Sabha too contributed to the effort.
