51 Infantry Division Gears Up for Exercise ‘Seagull’ with Amphibious Operation Training

The 51 Infantry Division recently completed amphibious operation training in the Northern Naval Area in preparation for Exercise ‘Seagull,’ a joint operation with the Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Air Force. The exercise is scheduled to occur on Palaitivu Island, situated south of Mandativu Island.

The training, conducted from 04 to 06 January 2024, aimed to familiarize Army troops with naval ships and sea conditions, preparing them for the final exercise. Over 40 officers and 353 Other Ranks participated in the training under the supervision of General Officer Commanding, 51 Infantry Division, Major General S.W.B Welagedara RSP VSV USP ndc.

The training took place in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Navy at the Chief Northern Naval Area in Kankasanthurai and the Sri Lanka Navy camp Kanchadewa at Kayts. Exercise ‘Seagull’ is set to commence on 12 January 2024, featuring an amphibious attack on Palaitivu Island. This exercise presents a valuable opportunity for the Sri Lankan Armed Forces to test and enhance their amphibious capabilities.
