513 Brigade troops on the instructions of the General Officer Commanding, Major General Deepal Pussella of the 51 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna at the request of civilians are currently engaged in the supply of drinking water to the civilians in Maruthapuram, Kovalam, Kalabhoomi, Palavoadai and Palakadu Grama Niladari divisions of Karainagar island using Army water bowsers as the area has been affected with a severe drought.
It was first carried out during 16-17 August due to the dire need of the public and the 513 Brigade troops under the command of their Brigade Commander expect to re-start the supply after evaluating weather developments and need for water.
Troops of 11 Sri Lanka Light Infantry have undertaken the project with the blessings of Major General Jagath Kodituwakku, Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna.
