51 Division’s Initiative Awards Free Push Bicycles to Students

The Army coordination for sponsorship resulted in the free distribution of 10 more push bicycles for school students of needy families in Sittankerny area in the Jaffna peninsula as part of the civil-military cooperation programme of the 51 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna on Saturday (12).

The community project organized on the directions of Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe, General Officer Commanding, 51 Division was meant to address the transport needs of school students living in far remote areas of the Sandilippay Divisional Secretariat area where public transport is not very regular.

A simple ceremony organized by the Commanding Officer 11 Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Lieutenant Colonel K.P.C.K Kariyawasam and his troops at Sittankerny Harmony Centre saw those 10 bicycles, sponsored by a philanthropist who wishes to remain unidentified being gifted to those needy children with the coordination of 513 Brigade troops.

Colonel Rizvi Razic, Commander, 513 Brigade as the Chief Guest of the event, together with Lieutenant Colonel K.P.C.K Kariyawasam gave away those incentives to those 10 students after inviting them to the Harmony Center at Sittankerny.

Parents and several Senior Officers were present at the occasion.
