The 5 Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP) Regiment was re-deployed under-command to the Directorate of Provost in order to engage in Military Police ceremonial duties on Thursday (30 Nov) at the SLCMP Regimental HQ at Polhengoda to be in line with the ongoing Army restructuring process.
The 5 SLCMP was raised on 28 December 2009 and continued to provide provost support to 1 Corps, 57 Infantry Division and 66 Infantry Division under the Security Force HQ– Mullaitivu.
The inauguration ceremony of the re-deployment of the unit took place on Friday (1 December) under the guidance of the Provost Marshal of Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police, Major General A.C.A De Zoysa USP Hdmc Lsc.
Major D.G.I.P Gombarage USP psc Lsc, Commanding Officer, 5 SLCMP commenced duties at the new location by hoisting the unit flag in front of all Officers and Other Ranks in order to symbolize the re-deployment. Subsequently, a group photograph was taken to leave memories of the event at the Regimental Headquarters premises.
A few minutes later, the SLCMP Colonel Commandant delivered the speech on redeployment and inauguration before all the troops in the Unit. The Day’s proceedings culminated with an All Rank tea before Major General A.C.A De Zoysa USP Hdmc Lsc penned down some complimentary remarks in the unit's Visitors' Book.
