The Army Inter Regiment Elle Tournament-2022 with more than 450 Elle players belonging to sixteen Regiments of the Army, including five woman Battalions was conducted at Diyagama Mahinda Rajapaksha Stadium on a grand scale during 14 - 21 November 2022.
Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) and Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC) teams closely competed in the men’s finals while 4 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps and 5 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps entered the finals.
Finally, in the men’s category, Sri Lanka Light Infantry Elle team beat the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps team amidst roars of applause and clinched the champion trophy pushing the Sri Lanka National Guard team to secure the third place in the tournament.
Private N.C Balasooriya of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry was adjudged the Best player in the Inter Regiment Elle Championship - 2022. Lance Corporal R.A.S.H Jayarathne of the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps and Private D.A.D.C Kalhara of the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps received awards as the Best Fielder and the Best Batsman respectively.
Meanwhile, in the women’s category 5 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps Elle team emerged as champions to claim the trophy, beating the 4 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps Elle team. 7 Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps team secured the 3rd place in the tournament.
Corporal M.N.L.K. Damayanthi of 5 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps was adjudged the Best Woman player in the Inter Battalion Elle Championship. Lance Corporal K.C.K. Samanmalee of 5 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps and Lance Corporal V.P.Y. Dharmadasa of 5 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps were awarded as the Best woman fielder and the Best woman batsman respectively.
Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku, Chief of Staff witnessed the finals and joined the awarding ceremony as the Chief Guest. Major General Channa Weerasuriya, Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General Hirosha Wanigasekera, Master General Ordnance, Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe Adjutant General, Centre Commandants, few Brigade Commanders, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and a large gathering of Elle fans watched the finals. In addition, various colourful features entertained the gathering.
The day’s Chief Guest after the finals, together with a few other invited senior officers, gave away awards, trophies and certificates to the winners and achievers.
All the arrangements for the tournament have been properly coordinated at the location by the Sri Lanka Army Elle Committee on the directions of Major General Deepal Pussella, Chairman, Sri Lanka Army Elle Committee and Commander Security Forces (West) with the support of the Sri Lanka Army Directorate of Sports.
