449 More Positive Cases Detected –NOCPCO

As of this morning (8), a total of 449 more persons were confirmed positive to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. 04 of them are foreigners (03 from Egypt and 01 from UAE). All other 445 were from locally-identified affectees, states the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO).

By 6.00 this morning (8), the total number of COVID-19 positive cases reported from Minuwangoda garment factory stands at 9,941. Of them, 1,041 are factory employees, 1,007 persons from Peliyagoda Fish Market and other 7,893 are locally-identified contacts of those garment factory-infected employees and the Fish Market. Of these, 412 employees of the Minuwangoda Garment Factory have fully recovered and 3,887 of their associates have been discharged from hospitals.

The flight QR 668 from Doha, Qatar with 17 passengers arrived in Colombo. All those passengers were referred to Quarantine Centres (QCs), managed by tri-services after formalities at the airport.

Within the day (8), 47 quarantined individuals after PCR tests are set to leave for their homes. Of them, 2 persons are from Dickwella Resort QC and 45 persons from Puvarasakulam QC.

To-date, 63,784 individuals have left for homes after quarantining. As of this morning (8), 2,454 persons in 30 tri service-managed QCs are still in quarantine. Within yesterday (7), 11,620 PCR tests were carried out across the country and the total PCR tests conducted so far stands at 592, 218.

By 6.00 this morning (8), 537 fully-recovered COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospitals. All of them have been identified as close contacts of the Minuwangoda garment factory-infected employees who were in quarantine at QCs.
