A group of 37 Sri Lanka Army athletes and players including women cricketers will participate in the ‘Commonwealth Games - 2022’, to be held in England, Birmingham during 28 July - 8 August 2022.
The group, composed of competitors in swimming, Judo, basketball, beach volleyball, cricket (Women), Rugby, Boxing, Athletics, Badminton and para wrestling and discus-throwing events is expected to leave for England on Monday (25).
The Army participation assumes greater significance this time since the entire National Boxing Team is represented solely by Army Boxers.
Major General (Retd) Dampath Fernando, Chief of Mission and Colonel Chandana Thennakoon function as Team Security Coordinator respectively during the participation.
