350 More at National Institute of Education under 2nd Phase Receive Vaccines

In line with HE the President’s instructions to prioritize the vaccination of teachers’ community, a medical team of the Army Directorate of Preventive Medicine on the directions of General Shavendra Silva, Head, NOCPCO, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army on Friday (13) launched the second phase of the vaccination of about 350 teacher instructors and staffers at Maharagama National Institute of Education (NIE), the country’s prime institute that provides leadership for the development of general education with quality, equity and relevance with special focus on teacher training.

The Army Medical team, comprised of Doctors, Nurses and Para Medical staff came in for praise from those who received the jab under this newest project that has been entrusted to the Army Medical teams a few weeks ago. Accordingly, the vaccination of teaching staff would continue as advised in consultation with Health Ministry, Epidemiology Unit and other relevant wings.

The NIE, responsible for capacity building of educational managers, teacher educators and teachers, design and development of school curricula and conduct of policy research on education is the central agency, mandated exclusively to advise the Minister of Education on matters of relevance to teaching modules, educational modules and all other related academic training programmes in the country.
