35 More Middle-Grade Officers Graduated in ASL Logistics Staff Course

A group of 35 middle-grade Officers, including Army (32), Air Force (02), and one Nepal Officer who followed the one-year long Logistics Staff Course - No 9 (LSC) at Army School of Logistics (ASL) in Trincomalee during a simple ceremony at Colombo Defence Services College auditorium on Wednesday (13) received their graduation.

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army at the invitation of the ASL Commandant, Colonel Y.K.S Rangika psc ptsc attended the graduation ceremony as the Chief Guest.

The Logistics Staff Course (LSC) in the Army as the highest professional course in the field of Logistics and Administration grooms Officers of the Tri Services for resolution of logistical and administrative issues, related to their profession and conduct of routine procedures, as laid down in the organization.

Wednesday’s ceremony got to a start soon after the Chief Guest arrived at the location to be received by the Commandant of ASL. Afterwards, the proceedings for the distribution of symbolic parchments containing certificates to all 35 graduates began amid applause.

Another special feature of the occasion was the presentation of the two most prestigious ASL awards. The ‘Best Student Officer in the LSC - No 9’ award was given to Major J.C Ruwanpathirana of Corps of Engineer Services and the ‘Best Logistic Planner’ award went to Major R.C.N.B Rankothgedara of Sri Lanka Light Infantry.

Soon after that, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage in his speech to the occasion, outlined the importance of following professional courses on Logistics and their application for the betterment of any organization. He also extended his best wishes to the sole foreign graduate for being part of the Course.

Afterwards, the official school journal ‘Golden Log 2023’ was launched as one more formality in the agenda. The first few copies were handed over to the guests, including the Army Chief, the Chief Guest for the occasion. Towards the conclusion of the day’s proceedings, the ASL Commandant adding memories to the day’s event presented a special memento to the Chief Guest. The gesture was reciprocated by the Army Chief.

The graduation ceremony was attended by Major General U.D Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc, Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Major General S.P.A.I.M.B Samarakoon Hdmc Lsc, Commander Army Logistic Command, Senior Officers, Officers, scholars and several other invitees of high profile.

The Logistics Staff Course is conducted as a full time residential course for a period of one year, which qualifies them to claim the title ‘Lsc’ upon completion. The Course is also meant to develop skills and attitudes of selected Student Officers of the Army and sister services, inclusive of Officers of friendly foreign countries before those Officers are posted as senior logistics appointment holders in the Army or their respective organizations.

The Course is affiliated to General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) that awards the Master of Business Administration in Logistics Management (MBA in LM). Apart from those modules, those qualified ones undergo a comprehensive English language package for a period of three months at the KDU.
