31 Middle-Grade Officers including Foreign Officers Graduated in ASL Logistics Staff Course

A group of 31 middle-grade officers, including Army (26) Navy (02), Air Force (01), Bangladesh (01), Nepal (01) who followed the one-year long Logistics Staff Course - No 8 (LSC) at Trincomalee-based Army School of Logistics (ASL) on Friday (09) during a simple ceremony at Colombo Defence Services College auditorium received their graduation.

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army at the invitation of the ASL Commandant, Brigadier E.M.M Fernando Hdmc Lsc AATO attended the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The Logistics Staff Course (LSC) as the highest professional course in the fields of Logistics and Administration grooms Officers of the Sri Lanka Army for resolution of logistical and administrative issues, related to their profession and conduct of routine procedures, as laid down in the organization. The Logistics Staff Course is conducted as a full time residential course for a period of one year, which qualifies them to claim the title ‘Lsc’ upon completion. The Course is also meant to develop skills and attitudes of the selected Student Officers of the Sri Lanka Army and extend the same towards sister services and friendly foreign countries before those Officers are posted as senior logistics appointment holders in the Army or their respective organizations.

The Course is affiliated to General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) that awards the Master of Business Administration in Logistics Management (MBA in LM). Apart from those modules, those qualified ones undergo a comprehensive English language package for a period of three months at the KDU.

Friday’s ceremony got to a start soon after the Chief Guest arrived at the location to be received by the Commandant, ASL, Brigadier E.M.M Fernando Hdmc Lsc AATO, together with the Chief of Staff, Major General C.D. Weerasuriya RWP RSP ndu.

After the ASL Commandant welcomed the day’s Chief Guest, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, the proceedings for the distribution of symbolic parchments containing certificates to all 31 graduates began amid applause.

Another special feature of the occasion was the presentation of the two most prestigious ASL awards. The ‘Best Logistic Planner’ award went to Major R.A.A. Senaviratne of Sri Lanka Army Service Corps and the ‘Best Overall Performance in the LSC - No 8’ award was given to Major N.C.C.P Nawarathna of Sri Lanka Army Service Corps.

Soon after that, in his speech to the occasion, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage outlined the importance of following professional courses on Logistics and their application for the betterment of any organization. He also extended his best wishes to foreign graduates for being part of the Course amid looming health threats in the world.

Afterwards, the official school journal ‘Golden Log 2021- 2022’ was launched as one more formality in the agenda. The first few copies were handed over to the guests, including the Army Chief, the Chief Guest for the occasion. Towards the conclusion of the day’s proceedings, the ASL Commandant adding memories to the day’s event presented a special memento to the Chief Guest.

The graduation ceremony was attended by Major General C.D Weerasuriya RWP RSP ndu, Chief of Staff, Major General D.G.S Senarath Yapa RWP RSP ndu, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Major General D.B.S.N Bothota RWP RSP USP psc, Military Secretary, Major General A.C Lamahewa WWV RWP RSP, Director General Infantry, Major General G.R.R.P Jayawardena RWP RSP ndu, Quarter Master General, Major General S.P.A.I.M.B Samarakoon Hdmc Lsc, Commander, Army Logistic Command, Major General W.M.R.R.W.W.H.J.B Wanigasekara USP, Master General Ordnance, Senior Officers, Officers, scholars and several other invitees of high profile.
