30th Anniversary of Kokavil Siege Remembered at Monument

Gallantry of Captain Saliya Aladeniya PWV and his heroic troops who laid their lives in Kokavil some 30 years ago while defending the Kokavil transmission tower and the camp under siege was honoured and commemorated at a simple ceremony, held at Kokavil War Heroes’ monument on Saturday (11).

6 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) troops on the directions of 652 Brigade Commander, Brigader Anil Perera made arrangements in this regard where memories were recalled offering bouquets of flowers at the memorial.

Major General Hemantha Bandara, General Officer Commanding, 65 Division at the invitation of the 652 Brigade attended the simple ceremony as the Chief Guest. 31 Army personnel of the 6 SLSR presented the salute and the parade.

The famous Kokavil camp siege and bravery of 54 SLSR War Heroes has entered the annals of Sri Lanka’s military history as a turning point due to the sustained efforts of those heroic soldiers who defended the camp for more than 40 days without any supplies of water and foods. trace affiliate link | UOMO, SCARPE
