Troops of the 3 (V) Gemunu Watch (GW) of the 613 Brigade under command to the 61 Division of the Security Force HQ-West on Thursday (1) cleaned Walliwala beach along Matara coastal belt areas, affected due to debris of the damaged ‘X Press Pearl’ container ship recently.
Troops carried out this programme on the directions of General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army under the supervision of Major General Vikum Liyanage - Commander Security Forces-West with the objective of completely removing pollutants which are posing a health hazard.
Major General Dammi Hewage - General Officer Commanding 61 Division, Brigadier Upul Kodithuwakku - Commander 613 Brigade and Commanding Officers personally attended to the project.
