A contingent of Army personnel, belonging to the 8 Sri Lanka National Guard (8 SLNG) under the 242 Infantry Brigade of the 24 Infantry Division of the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ - E) responded to an emergency need around the morning hours on Thursday (March 23) and assisted to extinguish a fire that occurred in a textile shop at Thirukkovil, Thambiliuvil area.
Following information and the request of the Thirukkovil Fire Brigade, 2 Officers and 25 Other Ranks of the 8 SLNG and two water bowsers of the 242 Infantry Brigade along with the Thirukkovil Fire Brigade hurried to the scene and commenced work with others to bring the quickly spreading fire under control within a few hours before more damage was caused to the rest of the area.
Brigadier Anuradha Solangaarachchi, Commander, 242 Infantry Brigade, together with Major T.D.S.K Deniyaya, Commanding Officer, 8 SLNG, closely supervised the task on the directions of the General Officer Commanding, 24 Infantry Division and the Commander, Security Forces-East.
