Troops of the 242 Infantry Brigade of the 24 Infantry Division under command to the Security Force HQ-East renovated the library building at Pottuvil Sinhala Vidyalaya on request and vested it to school students on 27 March during a simple event.
The Lions Club, 306 B 2-Weliweriya provided the necessary financial contribution to the renovation and gifted 1000 books to the school library in addition to award of six scholarships to six selected students, clever at learning but economic constraints have posed a setback to their continued studies. Accordingly, six students were awarded a monthly grant of Rs 2500/= and two more monthly scholarships, each to the value of Rs 5000/= were also granted to two senior students as part of the day’s programme.
The event was organized with the blessing of Major General Sujeewa Hettiarachchi, Commander, Security Forces - East, and under the supervision of Major General Vipula Chandrasiri, General Officer Commanding, 24 Infantry Division. Brigadier Anuradha Solangaarachchi, Brigade Commander, 242 Infantry Brigade was instrumental in organizing the project.
Brigadier Anuradha Solangaarachchi, Brigade Commander, 242 Infantry Brigade graced the occasion as a chief guest, together with representative officials of the Lions Club, 306 B 2, Civil Affairs Officer, Commanding Officers of under command battalions, Officers, and Other Ranks also attended the event.
