With the intention of alerting the general public to the importance of keeping the beaches clean, Army troops of the 242 Infantry Brigade of the 24 Infantry Division on Friday (15) cleaned the coastal beach around the ‘Pottuvil Muhudu Maha Viharaya’ surroundings as per guidelines given by Major General W. Chandrasiri RSP USP psc, Commander, 24 infantry Division.
The Instructions of Colonel L.S.D.N Pathirathne RSP USP, Brigade Commander of 241 Infantry Brigade and the supervision and coordination of the Civil Affairs Officer of the 242 Infantry Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel W.R Dharmasena enabled the effective conduct of the project.
Officers and Other Ranks of the 14 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment participated in the project.
Afterwards, the beach premises up to Arugambay, was also cleaned by a group of troops inclusive of 15 Army personnel and members of the Pottuvil Municipal Council removing a heap of garbage and beach pollutants.
