234 Infantry Brigade troops of the 23 Infantry Division under the Security Force Headquarters - East launched a programme to distribute school accessories among 77 students, studying at Galoya Maha Vidyalaya Galoya during a simple ceremony on Thursday (Jan 19). Each pack, worth about Rs 3000 included stationery, books, accessories, pens and pencils and the distribution was held at the school main hall.
This was made possible through the kind patronage extended by one Mr Prasad Lokubalasooriya, a tutor in the Gampaha area.
The project was headed by Brigadier Chandima Kumarasinghe, Commander 234 Infantry Brigade in keeping with directions and guidance given by Commander Security Forces-East, Major General Sujeewa Hettiarachchi, and under the close supervision of Major General Shewanth Kulathunga, General Officer Commanding, 23 Infantry Division.
Lieutenant Colonel K.J.N.M.U.K Navarathna, Civil Affairs Officer attended the distribution ceremony as the Chief Guest along with Lieutenant Colonel R.N.C.Y Ramanayake, Commanding Officer, 7 Sri Lanka Artillery Regiment who toiled to make the project a success. Several Officers, Other Ranks, principal, and members of the tutorial staff attended the distribution ceremony.
