233 Brigade Turns 29 Years of Age

233 Brigade Headquarters in Vakarai giving priority to religious observances marked its 29th anniversary with a series of events in the HQ premises beginning 25th February.

With the assistance of the Polonnaruwa Blood Bank, more than 75 Army personnel of the 233 Brigade donated their blood to coincide with the anniversary.

After placing 28 Buddha statues inside the Brigade temple premises on 28th February during a ceremony, an all-night ‘Pirith’ chanting ceremony followed, headed by members of the Maha Sangha. On the anniversary day, a simple military ceremony greeted the day’s Chief Guest, 23 Division, General Officer Commanding and the 233 Brigade Commander.

The offer of ‘Heel Daana’ to 13 Buddhist monks, the following morning brought the anniversary events to end.
