Coordinated efforts of about 53 Army troops including 3 Officers of the 7 Sri Lanka Artillery and 5 (V) Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) of the 231 Infantry Brigade of the 23 Infantry Division brought down a fast swelling forest fire that erupted in Galoya, Habarana on Saturday (8 July).
Upon the outbreak of the forest fire, the Range Forest Office officials in Habarana alerted the 231 Infantry Brigade troops and other agencies in the area seeking assistance.
The support of Army troops, forest officers, villagers and youngsters in the area however brought the fire under complete control within a few hours.
This community oriented project was carried out under the guidance of Brigadier K.V.N.P Premaratne RSP USP psc, General Officer Commanding of the 23 Infantry Division. Brigadier K.M.C.S Kumarasinghe, Commander, 231 Infantry Brigade supervised the Army involvement.
