23 VIR Troops Re-do Rain-affected Gravel Road

The badly-eroded gravel road that runs from Karipaddamurippu to Thampane in the general area of Oddusuddan was made completely motorable and renovated by 23 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) troops of the 642 Infantry Brigade under the 64 Infantry Division.

Adverse weather conditions and heavy floods caused severe damage to the road and disrupted vehicle movements since torrential rains have washed away the earth turning it to be almost a muddy pool when villagers reached the troops in search of Army assistance.

Following guidelines given by Major General M. S Devapriya USP ndc, General Officer Commanding of the 64 Infantry Division, 23 VIR troops (01 Officer and 10 Other Ranks) under the supervision of Brigadier W M P W N D B Weerakoon, RSP USP, Brigade Commander, 642 Infantry Brigade re-did the road and re-filled it with soil with the assistance of volunteering civilians.

All potholes and damaged areas were re-attended and troops made the road motorable by 24 December 2023. The community-oriented project was appreciated and praised by residents in the area.
