Troops of 23 Infantry Division, along with Ottamawadi residents, marked the 76th National Independence Day with a grand-scale program on 04 February 2024 at the Ottamawadi town premises.
Major General K.V.N.P Premaratne RSP USP psc, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 23 Infantry Division, graced the celebrations as the chief guest.
To commence the event, more than 200 Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim school students, along with a local crowd, marched around Ottamawadi town, showcasing vibrant cultural and aesthetic elements.
Subsequently, the GOC hoisted the national flag and the assembly recited the national anthem.
Following this, villagers engaged in a rowing competition at the Ottamawadi lagoon and the GOC inaugurated the lagoon boat service, which will be managed by the 'A Vision' lifeguards.
Troops of 23 Infantry Division provided lunch, drinking water and sanitary facilities for over 400 participants, along with transportation for school students. The event saw the presence of Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and civilians in the area.
