Brigadier K.V.N.P Premaratne RSP USP psc assumed duties as the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 23 Infantry Division in Punani on Friday (7 July) during a simple ceremony, held at the HQ.
In line with military formalities, a Guard Turnout at the entrance to the Divisional HQ greeted the incoming General Officer Commanding before he was invited to review a parade and receive the salute, presented by troops of the 23 Infantry Division.
Amid religious blessings, invoked by the members of the Maha Sangha, Brigadier K.V.N.P Premaratne RSP USP psc left his signature for a formal document to signify the acceptance of his new office.
After a few minutes, he was invited to leave memories by planting a sapling in the compound as part of this ceremonial event. Afterwards, the newly-appointed General Officer Commanding of the 23 Infantry Division addressed the troops and set out his vision for the Divisional troops while highlighting the importance of dedication, commitment to duties and the positive approach in discharging responsibilities.
Brigade Commanders, Divisional Staff Officers, Commanding Officers and Other Ranks serving under the 23 Infantry Division were present during the ceremony.
