Major General Champika Ranasinghe assumed office as the 23rd General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 23 Division of the Security Force HQ-East on Thursday (29) during a simple ceremony.
On his arrival, 23 Division troops in 6 Battalion the Gajaba Regiment presented a Guard Turnout at the main entrance and a subsequent parade in accordance with military formalities.
The newly-appointed GOC planted a sapling in the Division Headquarters premises before he symbolically signed an official document to signify the acceptance of the new appointment amid religious observances.
Major General Champika Ranasinghe, prior to this new appointment served as the Commandant of the Infantry Training Centre (ITC) at Minneriya.
