More than 100 Army personnel serving the 23 Division Headquarters at Poonani under the Security Force Headquarters – East (SFHQ-E) volunteered to donate blood for the use of patients at Batticaloa Teaching Hospital, following a request received from the Batticaloa Blood Bank.
The arrangement, organized on the directions of Brigadier D.D.U.K Hettiarachchi took place on Wednesday (3) at the Medical Reception Centre at the 23 Division Headquarters.
Blood Bank authorities at the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital sought the assistance of the Army for blood since their stocks were fast depleting.
Brigadier D.D.U.K Hettiaarachchi, General Officer Commanding, 23 Division, officers and soldiers took part in the donation.
