23 Div Hqrs Entrance Gets Facelift; More Clinics Organized

East-based troops serving in the 22 and the 23 Divisions under the Security Force Headquarters – East (SFHQ-E) organized several projects in the past few days.
    
Troops of the 221 and the 224 Brigades assisted by  6 Sri Lanka Armoured Corps troops,   2 Volunteer Gajaba Regiment troops and 5 Volunteer Sri Lanka Artillery troops   under the supervision of the 22 Division coordinated separate  medical clinics, sponsored by ‘Jayagrahanaya’, Colombo at Sri Rathnajothi Pirivena, Mihindupura College, Trincomalee and Mandalagiri Temple, Dehiwatta during December 19 - 20.

18 doctors and 21 medical assistants representing ‘Jayagrahanaya’ conducted the clinics on both days. 

A total of 750 civilians were benefited from this two-day long medical campaign.

In the meantime, a newly-constructed mural decoration at the entrance to the 23 Division Headquarters depicting the historical ancient Battle of ‘Danture’ that took place in Sri Lanka centuries ago was declared open by Major General N J Walgama, Commander, SFHQ –E   at the invitation of Major General D. D. U. K. Hettiarrachchi,  General Officer Commanding 23 Division on Friday (25). 

Murals depict the Mahawansa legend, where the Sinhalese soldiers under King Wimaladharmasuriya 1 (1592 - 1604) annihilated the Portuguese troops in the fields of Danture and secured the power of the Kandyan Kingdom, which was a turning point in the natives’ struggle for the country’s freedom.

The mural was constructed by the troops of the 23 Division under the guidance and supervision of a civil painter, Mr D. P. Piyarathne Dasanayake of Giriulla.

On the same day,  new residential quarters constructed by the troops of the SFHQ-E for Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants of the SFHQ - East, was declared open by Major General N .J. Walgama, Commander, SFHQ-E. 

Meanwhile, a project to plant sandalwood plants was launched at the SFHQ premises under the ‘Chandana Arana’, National Tree Planting Programme which is going on across the island.
