Over 400 students representing 21 schools in Kinniya Educational Zone got together on International Children’s Day (October 1) and marked the event at Namaravil Ravulla Muslim Vidyalaya in Upparu.
The event, supported by 224 Brigade Headquarters, saw a series of entertaining features, in addition to free distribution of school books and reading of Children’s Day oath, etc. Raising of the National Flag signalled the beginning of the day’s proceedings.
Children’s various autistic skills and fun-making features added colour to the occasion and provided excitement.
UNICEF patronized the event by donating parcels of school books for distribution on the occasion.
Members of clergy of Islamic faith, representatives of Non Governmental Organizations working in the area, senior citizens, Colonel H.L.V.M Liyanage, 224 Brigade Commander, Lieutenant Colonel R.A.V Ranasinghe, Civil Affairs Coordinator, 224 Brigade, teachers and parents witnessed the ceremonies.
