Needy villagers and school children in Seruwila and surrounding areas were given free gift parcels, beds, school accessories, dry rations, etc during two separate events at Seruwila Raja Maha Viharaya and Panama Raja Maha Viharaya in the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E).
Troops of 22 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) serving Serunuwara area under 222 Brigade of 22 Division recently gave away gift parcels to 11 Buddhist temples, push bicycles to 25 students and dry ration packets to 150 families, following sponsorship provided by Ven Bandarawela Somananda Thero and his laymen from Nikaweratiya and Danduwawa areas.
Meanwhile, 23 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) troops also conducted a similar donation programme in Panama village during the final week of August 2013.
Offer of alms to 30 monks, donation of school accessories, milk bottles for infants, dry ration packets for more than 60 low-income group families came in for praise of the recipients.
Those donations were sponsored by Ven Batugampola Ariyawansa Thero and Ven Gunarathna Thero of Maha Karuna Society of Singapore.
