22 Division Troops in Trincomalee Support ‘Sathi Pirith Pinkama’

Trincomalee-based troops of the 22 Division under the Security Force Headquarters – East (SFHQ-E) on the eve of the New Year lent their full co-operation to conduct the annual ‘Sathi Pirith Pinkama’ (week-long chanting) at Jayasumanarama Raja Maha Vihara, Trincomalee which began on 26 December 2017.

The meritorious act invoked blessings on the motherland, people in Trincomalee and members of armed forces and the Police. On the first day, prior to the inauguration of chanting, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 22 Division, Major General Aruna Jayasekara respectfully carried the relic casket to be placed in the beautifully-decorated Pirith Mandapaya (octagon).

Deputy Inspector General for Trincomalee Mr. R.M. N.G Perera offered the Deheth Vattiya (tray of betel) to members of the Maha Sangha in conformity with traditions and simultaneously invited them to inaugurate the chanting.

At the conclusion of the week-long ‘Pirith Chanting’, conducted by 15 monks continuously day and night, an alms-giving ceremony attended by 75 members of the Maha Sangha took place at the same venue after seven days. Chief Incumbent at China Bay Sri Bodhirajarama Vihara, Ven Dehiowita Piyatissa Nayake Thero delivered orations after conducting religious observances in the inauguration of the Pirith Chanting and during the final alms-giving ceremony.

On the instructions of the GOC, 22 Division, troops cleaned up the entire temple premises, prior to the Pinkama arrangements and gave their fullest contribution to make this meritorious event a success.

A large gathering of devotees, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks of tri-services and Police Officers attended the religious ceremonies on both days.
