Major General W. A. N. M Weerasinghe, assumed office as the 23rd General Officer Commanding of the 22 Division in Trincomalee on Monday (26).
The day´s proceedings commenced with the incoming General Officer Commanding, being accorded a Guard Turnout on his arrival at the premises. He was welcomed by Colonel General Staff 22 Division and conducted to receive the ceremonial parade, accorded in his honour by the troops of 22 Division at the parade square.
Afterwards, the GOC planted a sapling in the gymnasium premises to mark his inauguration of office. Major General W. A. N. M Weerasinghe amid religious observances signed an official document and formally accepted the office.
Later, he addressed the troops and urged them to maintain the highest standards of discipline at all levels to ensure the effective function of the Headquarters 22 Division.
Commanders of 221, 222 and 224 Brigades, Commanding Officers of the Division and Staff Officers of the 22 Division participated in the event.
