To coincide with the 62nd Army anniversary and Army Day, the 22 Division Headquarters in Trincomalee launched a tree-planting campaign in their camp premises and outside pathways on 10th October with the participation of hundreds of troops.
Brigadier D. Hettiarachchi, General Officer Commanding, 22 Division inaugurated the programme after planting a few coconut and jak saplings in the 22 Division Headquarters premises.
In total, 200 coconut and 50 jak saplings were planted inside the camp and on both sides of the immediate pathways to the camp premises. This was the first time such a large number of tree saplings were planted one and the same time.
Troops have also been assigned the task of growing those tree saplings until maturity and the 22 Division expects to further expand the programme in the future after distributing more and more tree saplings to all Brigade and Unit levels.
Towards the end of the day’s programme, both officers and other ranks took part in a cricket match.
