22 Division Celebrates Its 26th Anniversary

Trincomalee-based 22 Infantry Division of the Security Force HQ - East recently celebrated its 26th Anniversary amid religious and military formalities as well as doing some welfare activities under the guidance of Major General G.M.N Perera RWP RSP USP ndc, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 22 Infantry Division.

Prior to the anniversary day, a friendly cricket tournament, 'General Officer Commanding Challenge Trophy Cricket Tournament' was held during 14-15 July with the participation of 10 cricket teams including Division HQ, Brigades and Battalions cricket teams.

The final tussle was held on Tuesday (18) at the cricket ground of the 22 Infantry Division.

In addition, a 'Shramadana' campaign was conducted at “Missionaries of Charity” Elders' Home in order to clean the premises. Similarly, a stock of school-accessories was donated to the children at 'Revatha' children' orphanage on Tuesday (18) as part of the anniversary programme. An all-night ‘Pirith’ chanting ceremony on Friday (21) evening at the Division Headquarters with the offer of ‘Heel Daana’ (breakfast) to the members of the Maha Sangha, on the following day invoked spiritual blessings on the anniversary.

On the anniversary day (24 Monday), the GOC of the 22 Infantry Division on arrival was warmly welcomed presenting a Guard Turnout salute at the entrance.

He posed for a few group photographs, addressed the troops and planted a sapling in the compound. In the evening another friendly cricket tournament was played among Divisional troops.

Furthermore, a Musical Night was staged in the premises as the last feature of the anniversary event. Major General U.D Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc, Commander Security Forces - East graced the occasion as the chief guest.

General Officers Commanding of 24, 53 and 58 Infantry Divisions, Brigade Commanders and Commanding Officers in the 22 Infantry Division area and Government Officials of the Trincomalee area, Officers and Other Ranks took part in the entertaining evening.
