22 Division Builds New House for Missing War Hero's Family

Following an initiative taken by General Officer Commanding in 22 Division Brigadier A K S Perera, the mother of the War Hero, Lance Corporal Samaka Cooray who went missing during Puthukkudiyiruppu battles on 1st February 2009 was donated a new house, built at a cost of Rs 1.1 million.

The family of this War Hero had a temporary house, made of tint sheets in their own plot of land at Mihindupura, Trincomalee. Late War Hero’s father, a fisherman in Trincomalee area had died on 20th April 2000 while fishing in the Trincomalee seas.

Fellow soldiers in the 22 Division after collecting building materials and resources from donors and philanthropists in the area provided their labour for the construction of this new house on behalf of their departed fellow soldier within a matter of few weeks.

During a brief ceremony on Wednesday (18), both Governor for Eastern Province Rear Admiral (retd) Mohan Wijewickrama and 22 Division General Officer Commanding Brigadier A K S Perera symbolically handed over the keys of the new house to the War Hero’s mother.
