Army troops of the 213 Infantry Brigade of the 21 Infantry Division promptly attended to the repairs on the Thawarakkulam tank bund in Gajasinghepura on Sunday (12 November).
Torrential rains as well as rising water levels in the tank posed a threat to the tank bund after a minor crack was observed by villagers who were quick to seek Army assistance.
Under the guidelines given by the General Officer Commanding, 21 Infantry Division and the 213 Infantry Brigade Commander troops immediately attended to the emergency and averted a major disaster.
Brigadier M. K. D. P Mapalagama psc, Commander, 213 Infantry Brigade, Commanding Officer, 2 (Volunteer) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Major R. M. K. B Rathnayake RSP along with 1 Officer and 30 troops took part in the emergency need.
Villagers in Asikulam area commended the Army for their tireless work.
