21 Division Headquarters troops presented military honours and warm greetings to the newly-appointed General Officer Commanding, Brigadier Mohan Rathnayake of the 21 Division during a formal ceremony held on Wednesday (21) at the 21 Division Headquarters at Ranasewapura, Anuradhapura.
As the initial military formality, the new GOC was warmly welcomed by the Colonel Nalin Weerakoon, Colonel General Staff and Colonel Jagath Weerakoon Colonel Admin & Quartering at the main entrance and was invited to receive the Guard Turnout salute before taking over duties. Then, the new GOC placed his signature for an official document to symbolize the acceptance of his new office, amid chanting of ‘Seth Pirith’ by members of the Maha Sangha.
Subsequently, the GOC planted a Mango sapling in the complex marking the beginning of his new tenure and sat for an official group photograph with officers.
All the commanders of under command Brigades, all Staff Officers of the Division, all Commanding Officers and Other Ranks participated in the event.
