Troops in the 65 Division organized a cricket tournament in the 65 Division grounds, Thunukkai during 8-12 June on the directions of the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 65 Division Headquarters, Thunukkai.
Several civil sports clubs, Youth Sports Clubs in Mallavi and two Akkarayankulam school teams, Thunukkai Central College and Mallavi Central College and 12 Army teams vied during the tournament.
The Mallavi Youth club was selected to the final round in the civil sports club section while Thunukkai Central College secured the first place in the school match.
The final round, 20 (Volunteer) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) became the champions while 15 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) became the runners-up in the match.
Brigadier Sarath Weerawardena, GOC, 65 Division as the Chief Guest gave away trophies and certificates to the winners in the tournament.
