2 (V) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) troops of the 111 Brigade under the 11 Infantry Division of the Security Force HQ - Central, based in Kandy provided immediate support to rush Sri Lanka Technological Campus (SLTC) students to the Kandy hospital after they were attacked by wasps' sting while they were on a hike atop Hantana mountains on Saturday (1 July).
A group of 276 SLTC students during the weekend were on a mountain hike when they were unexpectedly attacked by a swarm of wasps (1 July), prompting those students to seek immediate Army assistance for evacuation of affected comrades for medical care as stings caused painful swellings and different medical complications.
One of the undergraduates however managed to ring the 2 (v) SLSR Commanding Officer in close proximity and sought assistance for evacuation. The 2 (v) SLSR Commanding Officer after dispatching a group of soldiers, including Officers to the location coordinated with the 1990 ‘Suwaseriya’ officials to take the most-affected to the hospital within the shortest possible time.
Deputy General Officer Commanding, 11 Infantry Division and 111 Infantry Brigade Commander closely monitored the emergency and gave necessary instructions to the 2 (v) SLSR Commanding Officer and his troops for the emergency operation.
