The 2 Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP) HQ at Girithale, responsible for provost duties of Eastern province got further equipped this morning (13) with the opening of its new two-storied Multi-Facility building complex, erected in the premises, a long-felt need of the HQ.
Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army at the invitation of Major General AL Illangakoon, Colonel Commandant, Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP) and Commander Forward Maintenance Area - Mullaittivu graced the occasion as the Chief Guest for the auspicious inauguration of the Multi-Facility complex, sponsored jointly by both AIA Insurance Company Ltd and National Savings Bank (NSB) coordinated by Lieutenant Commander (Retd) DMS Jayawardena, Executive officer of the Armed Forces' Welfare.
SLCMP members providing their manpower, engineering and technical skills, constructed the entire complex which houses an administrative wing plus a gymnasium, multifunctional hall, cook house and a salon.
At the entrance to 2 SLCMP compound, Brigadier TRD Sallay, Centre Commandant, SLCMP welcomed the Commander of the Army and invited him to review the formal Guard Turnout presented by SLCMP troops in honour of the visiting head of the organization.
After a while, Major General AL Illangakoon, Colonel Commandant, SLCMP warmly welcomed the Army Chief in front of the new building and invited him to symbolize its inauguration by unveiling the special plaque and cutting a ribbon. The Commander of the Army, together with Senior Officers present closely inspected the entire facility and commended the efforts of the SLCMP members and their successful accomplishment.
The dream of having a new multi-facility complex was realized due to collective efforts of former Commanding Officers and the present Commanding Officer Major NPEN Nerangama.
As the final segment of the day's ceremony, the Army Chief planted a sapling in front of the new building and added memories before he sat for group photographs and signing of the 2 SLCMP Visitors' Book.
The SLCMP Colonel Commandant, appreciative of the Commander's participation in the inauguration presented a memento to Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage and thanked him for his gracious presence there despite heavy workload.
Senior Officers including Commander, Security Forces (East), Major General GRRN Jayawardhane RWP RSP ndu, Commander, Forward Maintenance Area (East), Major General MWTC Mettananda USP, Commander, Forward Maintenance Area (North), Brigadier ACA De Zoysa USP Hdmc Lsc, Provost Marshal Army Headquarters, Brigadier BLR Bamunusinghe and Senior Officers of Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police, Officers and Other Ranks were associated with the event.
