The 68 Infantry Division HQ under the Security Force HQ - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) with the motive of further improving the livelihood of low income group families gave away 1850 coconut saplings among 300 Mullaittivu civilians on Sunday (3 September) after inviting the beneficiaries to the Puthukkudiyiruppu Central College, coincident with the World Coconut Cultivation Day.
‘Manusath Derana’ Foundation and Chilaw Plantation (Pvt) Ltd provided patronage for this community project at the request of the Army.
Major General M.K Jayawardena RSP VSV USP ndu, Commander, SF-MLT, together with Major General S Kasthurimudali RSP ndc psc, General Officer Commanding of the 68 Infantry Division graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Troops of the 68 Infantry Division made necessary arrangements for the occasion. Religious dignitaries in the area, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, State Officials, Mr Aruna Zoysa, Advisor of ‘Manusath Derana’ Foundation, Mr Jude Rookantha Perera, Chairman of Chilaw Plantations (Pvt) Ltd and beneficiaries were also present at the event.
