With the intention of uplifting the living standards of a needy family of four children residing in Columbuthurai, troops of 17 Gemunu Watch (GW) completed the construction of a new house and handed it over to the beneficiaries on 23 December 2023.
Following the instructions and guidance of Major General S.W.B Welagedara RSP VSV USP ndc, and under the supervision of the Brigade Commander, 512 Infantry Brigade, the troops successfully built the house within three months. The financial assistance for this project was provided by the philanthropic Durayappah family residing in Canada. This marks the 772nd house constructed by the troops of Jaffna.
The event was attended by the General Officer Commanding, 51 Infantry Division, Commanding Officer of 17 GW, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, and civilians from the Columbuthurai village.
