A group of forty 16 Gajaba Regiment (GR) troops under the 143 Infantry Brigade of the 14 Infantry Division, including the Commanding Officer (CO), 16 GR in response to a request, made by the Director, Forest Department in Puttalam joined hands with others to plant some 400 Karanda saplings along Kalladiya, Puttalam - Kurunegala main road on 16 November 2023.
The 'Ruk Ropana' (tree planting) project, initiated by the Forest Department in Puttalam was launched to make main roadsides greener in a bid to boost the forest cover and the environment. Troops alone planted 400 saplings along the roadsides as per the request.
The General Officer Commanding, 14 Infantry Division and the Brigade Commander of the 143 Infantry Brigade provided necessary guidance for participation in the project. Major S.A.D.P Jayarathne USP psc, CO, 16 GR with his troops completed the project within a few hours.
