16 Expatriates from Chennai Confirmed Positive to COVID-19 - NOCPCO

Sixteen persons who had arrived from Chennai and in quarantine at Club Hotel Dolphin, Ampara and Norochcholei Quarantine Centres (QCs) were confirmed positive to COVID-19 as of this morning (21). The total number of infected detainees as of this morning (21) by 6.00 am at the Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre for Drug addicts at Kandakadu stands at 629. Of them, 508 individuals are detainees under rehabilitation, 67 staff members, 5 guest staffers, 48 family members and close associates, including 01 person who got in contact with the infected one in the Welikada Prison, states the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO).

The flight VK 648 from Dubai with 34 passengers and the flight QR 668 from Doha, Qatar with 47 passengers arrived in Colombo. The flight UL 403 from Bangkok with 79 passengers and the flight UL 605 from Melbourne with 290 passengers are expected to arrive in Sri Lanka within next few hours and all of them would be referred to Quarantine Centres, managed by tri services.

As of today (21), 06 quarantined individuals after PCR tests are set to leave for their homes. Of them, 02 persons are from Ruwala, Kalpitiya QC and 04 from Nipuna Boossa QC. To-date, 31,142 individuals after completion of the Quarantine Process have left for their homes. Likewise, 6715 persons in 47 tri-service -managed QCs are still in quarantine. Within yesterday (20), 1610 PCR tests were carried out and the total PCR tests conducted so far in the country stands at 197,272.

Meanwhile, 05 infected positive COVID-19 cases after full recovery left hospitals early this morning (21). Four of them were identified as expatriates and the remaining one were among those associated with individuals in the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre. Accordingly, 571 individuals, associated with the Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre for Drug addicts at Kandakadu after recovery have so far left. A total of 58 infected persons, connected to the Rehabilitation Centre are still under treatment.
