16 Civil Cricket Clubs Compete in MLT Cricket Tournament

Two separate cricket tournament aimed at fostering goodwill and reconciliation got underway at 593 Brigade grounds in Nayaru, Mullaittivu in a grand arrangement, dubbed as the ‘Cricket Carnival’ in Mullaittivu District.

Those T20 cricket matches were played among teams of all Divisions under the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) and 16 Sports Clubs of civil cricketers.

The grand finale on Wednesday (19) kicked off in the presence of a large gathering of cricket fans and distinguished guest, including Major General Dushyantha Rajaguru, Commander, Security Forces – Mullaittivu (SF-MLT) who took the initiative in this direction.

59 Division cricketers emerged champions in the tournament for Army personnel while Udayan Sports Club in Mullaittivu carried the championship in the civil sector sports clubs.

Major General Dushyantha Rajaguru, Commander, SF-MLT as the Chief Guest distributed trophies and certificates to the Army and civil sector winners. Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, General Officer Commanding, 59 Division, Nalin Jayasooriya, Group Activation Manager, Ceylon Biscuit Limited and Colonel Lanka Amarapala, 593 Brigade Commander were also associated with the awarding ceremony.

Mr Thilina Alagoda, Regional Manager of the Ceylon Biscuit Limited (North) attended the prize giving as a Special Guest at the invitation of Major General Dushyantha Rajaguru.
