A ten-member team from the 15 Gajaba Regiment (GR) serving the Security Forces in Jaffna who took part in the ‘Map Reading & Field Craft Competition 2019’ of the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) won the Championship beating participants in 25 battalions.
The championship tournament, organized by the 52 Division on the instructions of Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna was aimed at improving the knowledge on map-reading and field craft among Army personnel of all those 26 Battalions serving the peninsula. Each team consisted of 10 Army personnel.
After a close encounter against 12 Gemunu Watch (GW) participants, the 15 Gajaba Regiment participants won the Championship in the competition.
The Best Competitor award was awarded to Major Indika Pathirana of 17 Gemunu Watch and Captain Waruna Withana of 1 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment who obtained equal marks was placed on top in the individual order of merit. The runner-up slot was won by 12 Gemunu Watch competitors.
Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna, Commander, 55 Division, Commander, Forward Maintenance Area (North), Commanders of 52 and 51 Divisions, Brigadier General Staff and Brigadier Administration and Quartering of SFHQ-J, Senior Army Officers and a gathering of Army personnel witnessed the finals along with a cross section of troops serving in the field.
