144 Infantry Brigade Troops Promptly Act & Avert Disaster

Alert to the possibility of danger to human lives, 2 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) troops under the 144 Infantry Brigade of the Security Force Headquarters (SFHQ-West) swiftly rushed to Dedigamuwa, Kaduwela area and safely removed a huge boulder hanging perilously atop a tiny hill in the area.

Residents around this hilly location have at first notified the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) of this possible danger in the event of further erosion of the hill due to rains as the huge boulder might slide and cause a disaster if rains continued. The DMC in return sought the assistance of the Army to get rid of this boulder at the earliest before this disaster causes heavy damage.

Accordingly, a contingent of Army personnel belonging to the 144 Infantry Brigade on the directions of Major General Deepal Pussella, Commander, Security Forces-West and Brigadier Vindana Kodithuwakku, Commander, 144 Infantry Brigade took the challenge of removing the danger after clambering up the steep hill.

Troops of the 2 (V) SLLI under the close supervision of Lieutenant Colonel W.M.S Kumara, Commanding Officer, 2 (V) SLLI attended to the task and took away the threatening boulder within two hours.

Officials of the Disaster Management Centre and civilians in the area supported the gesture.
